Ultimate Beauty

I have tried looking up words in the past via various online dictionaries to make a point and have found it to be a stretch...

I do not think that is the case here....

Per Merriam-Webster online dictionary
Beauty is defined as the following:

Beauty:
"the quality or aggregate of qualities in a person or thing that gives pleasure to the senses or pleasurably exalts the mind or spirit"

now match this with the description "ultimate"

Ultimate:
"the best or most extreme of its kind"

The portion of the definition I want to focus on is ..."that pleasurably exalts the mind or spirit"

Mountains peaks,
Sunsets over the ocean,
starry nights,
lush forests,
art of all kinds,
music of all sounds,
food of all tastes,
architecture of all designs,
people of all shapes, sizes, and color

At one point or another beautiful has been used to describe the above.

Interestingly, what one may think as beautiful another may not.
Which leads to the question...

Is beauty really in the eye, nose, mouth, and ears of the beholder?
Perhaps, unless it comes to God.

Stealing a thought from P.D. Tripp today
God is the ultimate beauty...

As I blogged a couple days ago... All these are signs pointing to the ultimate destination.
All these variations of subjective beauties point to the one true objectively ultimate beauty.

I am thankful that God has provided the variety within this world for us to enjoy.

Another ending thought...
The "awe" of anything of this world, the ability for it to "exalt the spirit" will fade.
This is not the case with God for He is the Ultimate Beauty.

  1. This post reminded me of Keith Green's song, "O Lord you're beautiful/Your face is all I seek..." God's beauty is real beauty. Definitely not skin deep.
