New week, new topic for my devotion this morning...

This morning, for some reason, I was curious as to why this morning 'routine' of reading a passage, reading some content, praying, writing my thoughts, and posting about it... Why is this called "A Devotion".   What makes it a devotion?

So I decided to look it up...
Definition of devotion:
Definition 1 - love, loyalty, enthusiasm for a person, activity, or cause.
Definition 2 - religious worship or observance, prayer

Latin Roots -
prefix de ("from")  and the verb vovÄ“re ("to vow")

Which brings me full circle to my devotion this morning and the title of my chapter for the week.
"The Worship of Another"

The chapter starts out with this verse as an anchor...
"I will offer in his tent sacrifices without shouts of joy: I will sing and make melody to the Lord"
Psalm 27:6

Offers sacrifices with shouts of joy.... that sounds devoted.

How often am I making sacrifices "in the name of Jesus"  with grumbles of frustration?
How often am I making sacrifices "in the name of Jesus" with pointed sarcasm?
How often am I making sacrifices "in the name of Jesus" with hesitant reluctance?
This on the other hand.... does not sound like devotion...

This is going to be a tough chapter as I ponder this devotion and allow it to penetrate me this week.

  1. Tough chapter for sure my friend. I'm not sure I'm coming back the rest of the week. Not if you are going to prod and poke me. :)

    1. No doubt, it is going to be a challenging week. I guess if you get prodded and poked it would be bonus my friend. - Have a good week

  2. Yes, Ryan, you've certainly given us much food for thought, and I'm looking forward to seeing what else you discover regarding devotion to God. Blessings, my friend!

    1. I am not sure I am looking forward to it, but I know it is what I need. Thanks Martha!
