The Beauty of Creation

Beauty... What is the thought that comes to mind when you hear or read the word beauty.
The interesting thing about beauty is that it is subjective... or is it?

We have all heard the phrases

"Beauty is in the eye of the beholder"
"Beauty is only skin deep"

There are a number of less known ones

"A beautiful thing is never perfect"
"Everything has beauty, but not everyone sees it."

To get a better idea of how others define beauty, I referenced Merriam-Webster.

Beauty - the quality or aggregate of equalizes in a person or thing that gives pleasure to the senses or pleasurably exalts the mind or spirit.

No doubt there are some beautiful places on this earth, this creation.
I have visited some places that have taken my breath away.

I googled the most beautiful places on earth and as I reviewed the pictures, this one stuck out.
Why, it is one of the closest to where I live.  I have been there, and the colors are stunning!

This is the Blue Ridge Mountains.

Blue Ridge Mountains, USA

Even with this beauty, it is still just a reflection of the beauty of God.
Some other photos included the Great Barrier Reef, Niagara Falls, and the Grand Canyon... among many others.

What I may prefer to gaze upon may not appeal as much to others.   My wife for example prefers the beach over the mountains.  We have often talked about finding a place to call home that would put us equidistant from each.

I need to keep things in perspective.   The beauty I see in this creation is flawed.  I am viewing this creation through a flawed set of eyes and my flawed brain and senses are interpreting what I see through tainted lenses.
I can only imagine what the beauty of God would be like when I can see him face to face.
I can only imagine what it will be like to be able to see God with a fully renewed body where my sight and senses are perfect and can take in all that perfect beauty with a perfectly new body.

Until that day comes, I can enjoy the sites and wonders of what God has created... but in doing so, know there is more to come.

  1. As beautiful as God's creation is, it is but a foretaste of the eternal beauty of heaven. Still, without beholding the beauty here, how would we even glimpse the promise of essential glory?
And I love the Blue Ridge Mountains, too, Ryan. Danny and I go there twice a year if we can to enjoy God's marvelous mountains, sunrises and sunsets.

    1. It is but a foretaste for sure... hard to believe at times that heaven will be even better!

  2. You have it right Ryan. There is no beauty like God's beauty.
